Alfred Carl Shambery Jr. was born on March 22, 1938, in Mangham, Louisiana, to Theresa and Alfred Shambery, Sr. He attended Alto High School and was enlisted in the Army Reserves. In 1960, he married Delores Fisher and started a family while pursuing a lifelong career in carpentry in South Bend, IN.
As active members of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church for several years, Alfred and his family engaged in various church activities and held steadfast beliefs in God.
Alfred and Delores had seven children collectively: Barbara Ledet (Felton) of Richmond, TX; Nita Mitchell (deceased); Deirdre Lloyd (Robin) of Allen, TX; Debra Austin (Ronald) of Richardson, TX; Alfred Shambery III of Indianapolis, IN; Darryl Shambery (deceased) & Larry Charles Shambery (deceased)
An entrepreneur at heart, Alfred and Delores also owned a vibrant lounge called "Al & Dees Lounge," where they welcomed family and friends from all over. In South Bend and beyond, Alfred left his mark as a carpenter, constructing and renovating numerous homes. He mentored his son Alfie and many young men, providing them with opportunities to work, learn, and earn money. Alfred enjoyed grilling & cooking food, fishing, and traveling.
In his earlier years, he & Delores along with family and friends have visited various countries and sailed on cruises. Known for his welcoming nature, Alfred was always happy to see anyone who walked through the door, especially his children and grandchildren.
Alfred is survived by his beloved wife, Delores Shambery, four children: Barbara Ledet (Felton), Deirdre Lloyd (Robin), Debra Austin (Ronald), Alfie Shambery - and twelve grandchildren: Erica Harrison (Cal), LaToya Canada (Kory), Ricardo Lloyd, Brittany Austin, Cedric Ledet, Alfred Shambery IV, Alexandria Shambery, Macey Shambery, Latoya Collins, Donna Turner, Brandi Mitchell, and Nedra Mitchell. He also leaves behind nineteen great-grandchildren. Siblings :Gladys Shambry, Michael Shambry (Felicia), Teresa Fennell (Clifford), Gloria Cleghorn, George Jones, Larry Jones We salute Alfred Shambery as he joins in heaven his parents-Theresa Jones, Rev. John Jones Sr and Alfred Shambery Sr., Sister, Sadis Shambery, Brother John Jones, Jr. and other special relatives and close friends.
