Barbara Jean (Pigee) Ellis affectionately known as “Jean” passed away at 4:20 am on August 20, 2024, with her daughter by her side. Jean was born on July 18,1954 in South Bend Indiana to Clara (Scott) Pigee and Demore Pigee who both preceded her in death.
She attended South Bend Schools and was a graduate of Davenport College. On May 26,1972 she married Floyd Ellis, they later divorced. From their union came three children Floyd Ellis Jr, Dominic Ellis and Brandy Ellis.
Jean loved making people laugh. She was always the funniest person in the room. She enjoyed playing bingo, dominoes and spending time with her family. She was known in the family for having the best “stuffed cabbage” recipe, which she passed down to her son Dominic, along with her love for puzzles. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan, which was influenced by her son Floyd. She retired from South Bend Schools after 20 years of doing what she loved, which was working with children. Jean’s greatest joy was being a grandmother to her grandchildren Makayla Baker, Ranzee Ellis, Jael Ellis and Dominic “Dallis” Ellis.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, grandchildren and a great grandson Del’Vontae Ellis along with her brothers Carletus Scott, Willie Pigee, Isaac Pigee, Steven Pigee, Thelbert “Mike” Scott, DeElvis Pigee and, Kevin Williams. Her 2 sisters who were also her caregivers, Willa Jones and Stephanie Pigee. Along with sisters Beverly Scott-Kilgore, Anita Jurden, Cassandra Meeks and KeOnna Williams. Sister in laws Catherine Ellis and Martha Ellis. Brother-in-law Franklin Ellis.
Special Nieces and Nephews Tracey Scott, Tanisha Jones, Audrey Brazier, Canisha Taylor, Lacrisha Darnell, Tysharae Jones, Alaysia Jones, Priest “Boo” Pigee, Isaac Pigee Jr. and WIllie Pigee Jr. And a special cousin Dora Scott-Castleberry. Special friends over the years, Mary (Burdine) Gregory, Linda Wolford and Arlene McCullum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Demore Pigee, mother-in-law Mary Ellis, sisters Brenda Phillips, Veronica Pigee-Collins, Linda Church, Nadine Duncan, a brother Gary Pigee and her grandson Deshontae Ellis.
Celebration of life will take place on Friday August 30, 2024 at 1PM with a viewing one-hour prior at Laymen Chapel CME. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolences may be shared.
