Charles Harrison Sr. Obituary

On April 12, 2026, in Raleigh North Carolina, our Heavenly Father called Charles Isaac Harrison, Sr. home. Charles was born on October 3, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Jesse J. Harrison, Sr. and Ruby J. (Benson) Harrison.

In 1953, the Harrison family relocated to South Bend, Indiana, where Charles was educated in the South Bend Public Schools. He attended Harrison Elementary, Central and Washington High Schools. Charles was an active student-athlete, playing football and participating in track and field. Following his high school graduation, Charles began his career at Bendix as an aircraft machinist. In 1974, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably until 1978, rising to the rank of Sergeant (E-5). During his time in service, he was recognized as both a skilled Rifle and Pistol Marksman and earned the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge from active duty, he served ten years in the reserve.  Charles returned to Bendix (later Honeywell), where he dedicated himself to his work until retiring in 1997. Committed to lifelong learning, he also attended Ivy Tech, where he earned an associate degree in Diesel Mechanics.

Charles married Elmira Brown, and to this union were three children. He later married Pamyula Watkins. He enjoyed attending Sunday service and was a longtime member of New Testament Missionary Baptist Church. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and visiting the casino. Charles took pride in sharing offbeat jokes, engaging in playful “joaning” and gathering for good conversation and a hearty meal. He never met a stranger and was a protector of his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife Pamyula of Raleigh, NC, two daughters Karla, and Antonia (Ronald) of St. Louis, MO, one son, Charles “Booke” I Harrison Jr., of South Bend, IN, one brother Casey(Deborah) Harrison of South Bend, IN,  two sisters, Delores Harrison and Marla Harrison of South Bend, IN, two sister-in-law’s, Deborah Harrison, and Shelaine Hodges both of South Bend, IN, seven grandchildren, Kenneth, Demetria, Dania, Dion, Tashara, Pep, Zionn, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. One brother Lonnie J. Harrison of South Bend, IN transitioned shortly after him. Proceeding him in death were his parents Jesse Sr., and Ruby Harrison, his paternal grandparents Jessie and Hannah (Nesbitt) Harrison, maternal grandparents Casey Benson, and Sadie E. Askew, two brothers Lawrence E. Harrison, and Jesse J Harrison, Jr., two nephews Rodney Morton, and Marcus Harrison, Sr.
