Cheokie Hugh Okereke (Huey), age 35, passed away peacefully at his home in South Bend, Indiana, on August 30, 2025. Born on February 12, 1990, in Leominster, Massachusetts, he brought light and laughter to those around him throughout his life.
Cheokie was homeschooled and later graduated from Rise Up Academy. His love of learning extended beyond the classroom—he was an avid reader and had recently embarked on writing his first novel, a project that reflected both his creativity and thoughtful spirit.
A man of deep faith, Cheokie loved the Lord and lived by values that reflected that devotion. He was known for his kindness, generosity, forgiveness, wisdom, loyalty, and remarkable self-control. His sense of humor was ever-present; he loved telling jokes and bringing smiles to those around him.
Cheokie had a passion for sports. He enjoyed playing basketball, table tennis, and soccer. A devoted basketball fan and enthusiastic video game player, he found joy in both physical activity and digital adventures—always ready for a friendly match or a shared laugh with friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his father Laurence Okereke; mother Tina Okereke (Williams); brother Akachi Okereke; sister Nnenia Okereke; grandmother Diana Trott; grandfather Mitchell Trott; aunts Gaynor Okereke, Shea Williams, and Cheri Smith; uncle Shelton Williams; special cousin Luke Smith; as well as numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
