Curtis Walton

Curtis Walton 78, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away  on Monday, August 28, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Curtis was born in South Bend, IN to Cullen Sr. and Lilly B. Walton, on August 11, 1945. Curtis or whom some know as “CW”  graduated from Central High School. In 1973, he joined the Police Academy and was sworn into the South Bend Police Department on January 15th, 1974. Curtis was awarded the honor of ‘Outstanding Policemen of the Year’ award in 1979.  Throughout his career with the Police Department, he was promoted to several different ranks.  In 1999, he retired from the SBPD as a Lieutenant. After retiring from the SBPD  Curtis decided he wasn’t quite ready to stop working. He joined the IUSB Police Department from 1999 to 2011. Once retired from IUSB  he continued working at the County City Building and Kennedy Academy. He was a hardworking man that loved his family and friends. 

Curtis enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts, but he LOVED dancing. You could always find him on a dance floor . He was known for throwing a yearly ‘Leo Party’ that brought many people in the community together to celebrate. Curtis was a Lakeside Legend and because of who he was Lombardy street will never be the same. He was well known for his positive impact throughout the community and he will be greatly missed.  

Curtis leaves behind to cherish his memory  his beloved children Curtis Jr. (Rochell) Walton, Kelly Cross, Todd (Rebecca) Hill, Meeka Randles, and Addistasha ‘Jenny’ Walton; Grandchildren, Denicka, Jessica, Jasmine, Darrius, Diamond, Trey, Isaiah, Tyrian, Dasan, Mekaiya, Demauri, Meyani, Camira, and Carmelo; Twin Brother Cullen Walton Jr.; Significant other Sylvia Swanson; Bestfriends, Ray Campbell, Johnny Rodgers & John McCullum and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Cullen Walton Sr., mother Lilly Walton, siblings Willa Mae Walton, Irene Slade, and Patricia Ann Oglesby; Great-niece Stacia Jennings.
