Dante Townsend

Dante Darnell Dominique Wayman Dubaugh Townsend, widely known as 44 Cannon, to those who respected him as a gifted Lyricist, departed from this life on January 9, 2021, at the age of 35.

Dante was born on August 22, 1985, to Varena Townsend and John Binion.  He was blessed to be raised by, Shawn Edwards, who was present at his birth.

Lovingly, Dante will be well remembered for his big personality and infectious smile.  As an Artist, Dante kept his family and friends connected and well-entertained through his recorded music and tenacious Battle Raps.  It was his passion for music and keen ability to communicate through intense wordsmithing that provided him a platform to share his talents. 

Memories of Dante will live on in his children, Tavaris Townsend of South Bend; Braylen Townsend of Bloomington, Indiana; Nalah Townsend, Karter and Kannon Townsend, all of Indianapolis; His loving Mother, Varena Townsend-Edwards; Five sisters, Britney, Jonnetta, Jordan, Justice and Jur-Nee Binion; One brother John Binion, Jr., all of South Bend.   His Maternal Granddad, Firdia  L. Johnson, Grandmother, Judy Martin, Aunts; Jacqueline (Gregory) Bosswell, Marlene (Terry) Waddell, Solenia Carr, Virgie (Mark) Smith, Ruthann Binion, Tessa (Shawn) Watts; Uncles; Firdia B. Johnson, Michael (Roxanne) Poole, Anton (Renee) Breveard, Terry (Makisha) Johnson, Verdell Williams, and Lorenzo Williams.

Close cousins; Noel and Leonda Underwood, Myron Waddell, Shakir Carr, His closest cousin and first friend, Martel Anthony Nicholson who passed on from this life just before him; and his dear friends Brian Williams “BWill”, Gerry Barr “Cash”, Donald Peck “Dizzy”, and LaVert Williams “Vert”, Sneak, Zilla, Woo, and Little;  along with a host of other family and friends.

Dante was preceded in death by Father, John Binion; his Maternal grandparents Virginia Johnson, and his grandfather, Solomon Townsend; Paternal grandparents Alberta Hawkins and John Breveard.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Layman Chapel CME Church, at 303 S Kenmore Street, in South Bend, Indiana, with visitation one hour prior.
Masked will be required, with social distancing in mind.
