Mrs. Fannie Mae Chambers 79, passed away unexpectedly on May 26, 2025, at Memorial Hospital. Fannie was born April 22, 1946, in Sledge Mississippi. The daughter of Lonzo Smith and Mary Dowd. Fannie shared 36 years with her love and soulmate Richard Onorati. Fannie was blessed with five children that she loved more than anything: Willie (Susan) Morris (Elkhart, IN), Don O. Smith, Carlee Smith, Stanley T. Smith and Kathy A. Smith (South Bend, IN). Fannie worked in manufacturing for 45 years. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She loved hard, welcomed everyone into her home and made sure you felt at home. She loved to cook for the holidays. She had a heart of pure gold. Fannie enjoyed fishing and going out to eat with her family. She had a contagious laugh and she loved to dance. Fannie will truly be missed! Fannie lived a good life.
Fannie is the oldest of 18 brothers and sisters and leaves to cherish her memory: Her love Richard Onorati, (South Bend, IN), sons: Willie (Susan) Morris (Elkhart, IN), Carlee Smith (South Bend, IN) and daughter: Kathy A. Smith (South Bend, IN). Brothers: Morgan Smith, Hosie Ward, Leon Dowd. Sisters: Lonnie (Don) Newton (Elkhart, IN), Maudy Wright, Shirley Morgan, Deloise Holman, Bonnie Jackson, Gertrude Welch, Shelia Rudd, Tracy Smith and Laura Dowd. Grandchildren: Bryan Newell, LaDawn Smith, Devon Colglazier, Dymia Miles, Jordan Morris, Darion Colglazier, Amanda Funderburk, Jonathon White, Tanley Smith and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, Lonzo Smith and Mary Dowd, sisters: Alice Green and; Shatina Smith, brothers: Alonzo Smith, Isadore Smith, Roosevelt Smith, Pernell Dowd and her sons: Don Smith Sr, Stanley Smith and grandson: Don Smith Jr.
Special Acknowledgement: Her sister Lonnie, their bond was unbreakable. Her great granddaughter Davionna, who she called her Princess. A special nephew Magellan who she called her Jewel. Her best friend of over 40 years Diane Hayes, whom she shared a lot of good time with. Fannie was so proud of her grandson Jordan and her pride and Joy was Bryan & lil Don aka “Head”; and she absolutely loved her Faith Alive church family, she appreciated everything that they did for her and her family!
