Gwendolyn Woods

Mrs. Gwendolyn (Ferguson) Woods, 88, departed this life on Sunday June 5, 2022. Gwendolyn was born May 7th, 1934, in Richmond, IN to William and Madie Lee Hopkins, whom both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters Jacquline O’brien and Katherine Collier, two brothers: William Hopkins Aka Billy and James Michael Hopkins.

She graduated from Richmond High School in 1952 and relocated to South Bend, IN where she Graduated from “Miss Bo Bo’s Beauty School, a Black Beauty School for people of color. She was a well-known hair stylist in the South Bend community for many years. Gwen was known best for her Famous BBQ ribs. She also made a mean catfish and spaghetti combo; and last, but not least was her peanut butter fudge. She had a passion for fashion design and became a self-made seamstress making her own fashionable designs for years.

Gwendolyn was blessed with a loving extended family. She leaves to cherish her loving memory One Sister: Lillian (Jody) – Ray Thompson, Three beautiful Daughters: Stephanie Woods, Joyce (Anthony) Gary, and Tamela Ferguson all of South Bend, IN. One loving Son: Anthony Ferguson of Evansville, IN.
Stepchildren: Zikea (C.J.) Jones of South Bend, IN, Trent Ferguson of Evansville, IN. Cassandrea Smalling, Debra Windstead, Shirley Ferguson, Thomas Ferguson Jr. all of Evansville, IN. 9 Step-Grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. Twelve grandchildren: Tiffany Thomas, Dustin Griffin, Quintin Ferguson, Kelsey Ross, Vanajia Moore, Tanazea Woods of Evansville, IN,Aaliyah Moore, Vante Moore, Janiya Clemons, Kelsea Stone, Ashanae Beavers all of South Bend, IN and Toniyah Jones of Texas. She was also blessed with fourteen Greet-Grand Children, Nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.   

She was one of a kind, close friends and family called her “Gwenie”, her children’s friends called her “Mrs. Ferguson” and was known by her grandkids friends as “Granny”. She was preceded in death by one Stepchild Sherry Lynn Ferguson.
