Monte De’Shun McGill Sr. of Fisher St closed his eyes at 1:45AM Saturday April 16, 2022, surrounded by his daughters and loving family. Monte was born September 2, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Calvin McGill and Fannie Thomas-Hackney. Monte attended Chicago Public Schools until the family moved to Niles, Michigan in 1989. He attended Niles Public School and graduated in 1990. Monte played football for both Chicago and Niles school systems. He served in the United States Navy for a short time and was honorable discharged. Monte went on to obtain degrees in medical science and phlebotomy. He was accepted into the IUSB nursing program but was unable to participate due to the start of his health issues.
Monte loved to dance, and he would bust a move anywhere. He was member and founded many dance secular groups and praise groups such as G.O.P, Soul Purpose, AYAP, Triple G just to to name a few. He gave his life back to God under leadership of the late Pastor Arnold of New Salem Baptist Church where he continued his ministry under the leadership of Pastor Hairston of Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years Monte was a great pillar to many kids in the community.
Monte is survived by his loving mother and stepfather: Fannie and Robert Hackney, brother Brian [ June] McGill; Eight beautiful Children MonTeria McGill, Monte Jr McGill, Jasmine McGill, Jasmine Gordon, Dejah Irving, and Jaydin McGill all of South Bend; DiMaan McGill of Atlanta ; Myron Jefferson of Illinois. Grandchildren: Tyler, Amyjah, Kayden, Caridad, Ma’Khi, Cj, Monte III and Ma’Honei McGill. His nieces: Brishana Bratcher Mcgill, Brianna Brathcer, Woniece Brather, and Summer Coleman of South bend; Nephews Brian Patterson and Bryce McGill of South Bend, Paternal grandmother Jackie Mabin of Chicago Ilinois. Longtime friends that was more like brothers and sisters J. Adonis Breveard, Christopher Wilson, Doneal Gregory, Tameia Northern, Tori Williams and along with other aunts uncles cousins and friends. Monte was preceded in death by his father Calvin McGill, maternal grandma Dorothy Thomas and Aunt Ola May Thomas. Monte legacy will continue to live on through his kids and grand kids.
