Patricia Lockett Obituary

Mrs. Patricia Ann Lockett 63, known as “Patty Polk” was born to the union of Percy and Lula Polk Sr. on April 21,1958 in Madison, Arkansas. Her family relocated to South Bend, IN, when she was only a few months old. Patty Polk received her formal education from LaSalle High School where she was a cheerleader. She was proud to be the first African-American to work at Bonnie Doon Ice Cream on Lincoln Way West. She was a woman of faith who taught her children about the love of Jesus and sang in the church choir at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist.

“Mrs. Patty Polk” was a hard-working woman, raising her children and helped raise others. She worked many years in the South Bend School Corp. and Notre Dame food Service Dept. She then found her calling as an Intake Community Specialist at the YWCA of Michiana, helping to restore families and women during their difficult time. Patty’s strength and confidence caused people to gravitate towards her for encouragement, and after over twenty years of dedicated service, she retired from the YWCA.

On October 11, 1999, she married Scott Lockett, who adored her, and they remained close like teenagers through the years. She gave her love and very best to her Eight Children: Mattelina Plump of Indianapolis, IN; Alexus Love of Atlanta, GA; Tamika Lockett of North Carolina; Federica Love-Umble, Alexia Umble, Tyson Love III, Faith Love and Christian Love all of South Bend, IN. Her love poured over into her surviving Grandchildren: Ashely and Ebony Davis, Jaion and Jamela Jones and Tyesha Love. Those left to cherish her memory include her Five Great-Grandchildren and Four siblings: Mae (Raymond) Smith of South Bend, IN; Ruthie Winns and Percy Polk Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; Edward Polk of Toledo, OH; and her Three Best Friends: Michela Newbill, Candy Neely and Vicky Driver.

On December 13, 2021, Patty found rest at home surrounded by her loving family. She transitions to be reunited with those that passed on: Her Parents, Grandparents, Two Brothers: Willie Polk and Odel Whitaker; Two sisters: Ida Ursery and Joyce Stewart.
