Obituary

Mr. Raymond Eugene Lewis, affectionately known as “Cowboy Ray”, 61, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 9th, 2023, at 5:47 A.M.

Raymond was born on May 5th, 1962 to the union of Matthew C. and Jeanette D. (Galloway) Lewis Jr.. At an early age Raymond attended New Bethel Tabernacle of South Bend, Indiana, under the leadership of the late Dist. Elder Ardell Sanders and later in life he attended New Bethel Tabernacle of South Bend, Indiana under the leadership of Bishop C. E. Golder Jr. 

In 1982, Raymond E. was a graduate of Washington High School. Following the successful completion of High School, Raymond E. served in the United States Army and National Guard. Raymond was employed for many years as an avid welder. Although Raymond enjoyed fishing and hunting, Raymond’s true love and passion was engulfed in equestrian; raising, riding, and teaching others about horses. Raymond E. was a true cowboy. Whether at a park or a parade you could always count on seeing Cowboy Ray on one of many of his beautiful horses. In all, Raymond loved to spend time with his family and friends. 

Raymond E. is survived by his wife Sherry Lewis of Chandler, Arizona; one son, Darnell of Orlando, Florida, one daughter; Bianca of Chandler, Arizona, and four grandchildren. Three sisters; Cora Johnson, Diana Lewis, and Merrie Lewis Minor all of South Bend, Indiana. Four aunts; Martha Wakes and Joyce Robinson both of Buchanan, Michigan, Mayetta Witherspoon of Niles, Michigan, and Margaret Galloway of South Bend, Indiana. A host of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives that loved him dearly. 

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents Matthew C. Lewis Jr. and Eva Lewis; his maternal grandparents Charles and Margaret Galloway, and his brother Matthew C. Lewis III. Arrangements have been entrusted to www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolences may be shared.
