Saint Raymond Davis, affectionately known as Saint Ray, Super Spade or Uncle Raymond, departed this life on Thursday, August 14, 2025 in South Bend, Indiana; he was 84 years of age. Born on February 22, 1941 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Raymond was the beloved son of Lyman and Millie Bass-Davis; they both preceded him in death.
Raymond‘s Legacy is one of unwavering care, boundless kindness, and a zest for living life to the fullest. He was regarded as the life of the party as he always bought love, laughter and warmth wherever he went. His professional career included, brief years as a Police Officer, many years of service at Dodge Manufacturing Company where he worked until his retirement. His post retirement employment included Imagineering Enterprises where he remained until his final retirement.
In 1985 he met and married the late Shirley Ann Brown. To this union was born one son, Raymontow Retsel Davis.
Ray was an avid biker. He was a member and past president of the Tough Riders Motorcycle Club, Inc. He was also a 33RD Freemason. He had a unique way of teaching life values, and making an honest living. When called upon he was very dependable and fully understood the importance of a strong family. He supported family from immediate to extend. Raymond was a carpenter and very good with his hands. You could often find him tinkering with things or collecting items that he might find useful for others. Every now and then you might even see him with a U-Haul trailer hooked onto his pickup truck. He had his own unique and keen way of doing things; he lived life the way he wanted to, and enthusiastically shared his wisdom. His infamous line was “you have to paddle your own boat.”
Raymond leaves to cherish his memory, his son Raymontow; a granddaughter, Shonta Victoria Davis; his great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Jennings; step children, Diablo Pates, Tameka Pates and Shammarah Pates-Roberts; along with a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Along with his parents and wife, Raymond was also preceded in death by a son, Dmonyar Sivad Davis (his surviving mother is Cora Green); a step daughter, Kremelyn Williams; his brothers and sisters in-law, Frank (Ethel Lee), James (Lois), Jerry (Annie Loris), Preston, Tommy, Robert, Lyman Sr. (Annie), Della Thompson and Ardell Redding.
