Sammy "Bones" Swan

Mr. Sammy Lee (Bones) Swan 80 of South Bend, Indiana found rest on April 5, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. On July 6, 1945 he was born to Annie Lee (Swan) Taylor in Belzoni, Mississippi and would graduate from McNair High School. Sammy known as “Bones” to family and friends. He was good with his hands which led him into the automotive trade as a respected mechanic.  

In 1976 he met the love of his life Lorraine making her his queen, center of attention and wife on February 14, 1994; a happy marriage that lasted over 32 years. Bones enjoyed gardening, listening to Rock n’ Roll, and spending time with family. One of his happiest moments in life was his 80th birthday party.   

He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine Swan, Legacy of Children Joshua (Nikia) and Jasmine Swan (Hugh) all of South Bend, In. He was blessed with Eight Grandchildren: Jakirah Cameron, Rryeon Swan, Jayla Johnson, Joshua Swan Jr., Janae Langston, Justin Hubbard Jr., Daliyah Gregory, Jayce Six and one Great-Grand Child: Xa’xirah Cameron.  

He is also survived by his Siblings: Mary (Donald) Swan and Sally (LC) Scott both of Chicago, IL; Linda (James) Reed of Vista, AZ, Janice Swan of Belzoni, MS, Juanita (Ira) Henderson of Rowlett, TX, Lorettra Swan of Mesquite, TX, and Sam Swan Jr. of Inkster, MI. Sister-In-Laws: Cindy (James) Hinkle, Corrine Bennett and Rozlyn Montgomery all of South Bend, IN and Savanna (Ernest) Bryson of Bolingbrook, IL. Special Nieces: Dominique and Latoya Bennett, Chandra, Bonita and Bonetta Swan. Special Nephews: Jermaine Bennett, Emmett Hinkle, Larry Swan, Terrance Swan and Curtis Powell Jr. and a host of other nieces and nephews.         

“Those who are absent of the body are present with the lord.”  Those who have passed on before him: Mother Annie Lee Swan-Taylor and Father, Brothers Alonzo Gaines and Aaron Swan, Sister Dorthy Lee Epps and Niece Cassandra Swan.

A Celebration of Life in his Honnor will take place on Saturday April 18, 2026 at 2:30 with a Viewing One-hour prior at Laymen Chapel CME Church 303 S. Kenmore St. South Bend, IN. Apostle Charles Harris Officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolence may be shared.
