Samuel Lyle Daniel Obituary

Larger Than Life

   The Legacy of Lyle

Samuel Lyle Daniel, known simply as Lyle to all who loved him, peacefully passed away from cancer at 3:57 PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 50 in Mishawaka, Indiana. Though he didn’t wear a cape, Lyle was a real-life superhero. He captured time through his camera in ways nobody else could, with a rare talent for seeing the unseen and transforming simple moments into memories that would be remembered forever. He made you laugh like no one else could, brought boundless joy, challenged and inspired with his sharp intellect, shared profound wisdom, and left a warmth in your heart that lingered long after you were with him.

Born on March 14, 1975, in Trinidad & Tobago, to Ronald Gregory Daniel and Erica Fenella Daniel (Davidson), Lyle’s childhood was filled with imagination, sketches, comic strips, and the early signs of a vivid storyteller. He graduated from Caribbean Union College High School in 1991, earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1999, and completed a Master of Science in Education in 2025.

On December 15, 1999, in Trinidad, Lyle married Myrnetta (Gilbert), the subject he most loved to capture through his lens. Together, they built a marriage rooted in legacy and laughter. In 2013, their greatest gift arrived: their daughter, Layla. To her, Lyle was not just a father but a hero, her protector, her champion, the builder of her confidence, and the steady voice that guided her.

Lyle’s professional life reflected his dedication and passion. In 2024, he was honored as Teacher of the Year, a recognition that spoke not only to his excellence as an educator but also to the profound impact he had on his students. He showed them that math was not something to fear, but something to explore with curiosity and confidence. Beyond the classroom, he left an indelible mark by urging others to defy convention, embrace bold ideas, and carry that spirit of courage into every corner of their lives.

Away from the classroom, Lyle thrived in a world filled with creativity, imagination, and artistic expression. Through photography that revealed what others could not see, graphic design that brought visions to life, comic strips that carried his humor, and basketball games that sparked laughter, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He also loved debating on just about any and everything, pushing those around him to look beyond the obvious and see the world from new perspectives. Gaming was one of his greatest joys, from video games to board games, especially when enjoyed with family and friends. Each moment became a cherished memory that he treasured deeply.

Lyle’s presence was truly larger than life, radiating warmth, joy, and inspiration to all who knew him. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Myrnetta, his beloved daughter, Layla, his parents, Ronald and Erica Daniel, and his siblings Darrel Daniel, Rachel (Cleve) Halley, Lerone (Melissa) Daniel, and Saara (Henry) McEachnie, along with nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were fortunate to share in his story. His spirit, laughter, and love will continue to inspire and uplift everyone whose lives he touched.

Honoring his wishes, Lyle will be cremated. The Legacy of Lyle will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27th, in South Bend, IN, with an additional gathering to be held on Sunday, October 26th, in Trinidad, WI. Further details will be forthcoming.

Though Lyle may have put down his camera here on Earth, the moments he captured remain. Each laugh, each lesson, each act of love frozen in time. A superhero in every sense, he was, and always will be, LARGER THAN LIFE.
