Solenia Carr Obituary

Solenia Marie Carr was granted her wings and took flight to Heaven on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Her final moments were surrounded by the unconditional love of those she touched throughout her lifetime.

On September 16, 1967, Solenia was born to Judy and Solomon Townsend, who entrusted her care to Virginia and Freddie Lee Johnson. They lovingly raised her without reproach in South Bend, Indiana.

Solenia graduated from Riley High School and went on to attend Ball State University for two years before returning home to begin her professional career at The Juvenile Justice Center.

Solenia’s greatest treasure was her family. Raised in a close-knit family of eight, she grew up surrounded by a deep sense of togetherness, care, and connection—values that shaped who she was. Love was her strongest attribute, given freely in ways both quiet and bold… making those around her feel seen, supported, and deeply valued.

It was through this same love that she stepped into her most purposeful accomplishment—being The Mother of her “favorite son” Shakir Carr, who lives strong in her stead.

Solenia dedicated her life to servant-leadership in her work at Memorial Health, Indiana Health Centers, Trinity Health, and most recently St. Joseph County. Generous with her time and spirit, Solenia was a true advocate for those around her. In every endeavor, one thing remained constant—her passion for helping others. She enjoyed spending her time between Heroes Camp and Antioch Glory Center Church, not only serving with a fire for the Lord and unwavering faith—but also cherishing the unbreakable bonds built between these communities.

Carrying on her legacy and holding her in loving memory are her sisters: Varena Edwards, Virgie Smith, Marlene Waddell, Jackie Johnson, and Dazele Solomon. Her brothers: Michael Poole, Terry King Johnson, Bernard Johnson, and Kenny Minton. Followed by her nieces: Sierra, Mariah, Taylor, and Kaytlin (Smith); Nalah and Karter (Townsend); Zoe, Ayanna, and Kaitlyn (Nicholson); and her nephews: Mark Jr. and Carlton (Smith); Myron Waddell; Tavaris, Braylen, and Kannon (Townsend).

Blessed and Departed before her were Solomon Townsend, Virgina Townsend-Johnson, Judy Martin, Martell Nicholson, Dante Townsend, and Benjamin Smith.

Solenia will be remembered as a woman who made a lasting and positive difference in the lives of all who knew her—then, now, and always into eternity.
